KONE Elevators were first manufactured in Finland in 1910. Since then, it has been a market leader worldwide in the elevator industry, operating worldwide with over 43,000 employees and net sales of €6.9 billion in 2013.
KONE is the world’s fourth-largest elevator and escalator company. KONE operates some 800 services centers in more than 40 countries and delivers approximately 25,000 new elevators and escalators annually. Its service base consists of 520,000 elevators and escalators.
In 1996, the KONE EcoDiscTM enabled KONE to launch the machine-room-less KONE MonoSpaceTM elevator concept. It also provided KONE with a significant technological lead over its competitors. KONE EcoDiscTM halved the size, weight and energy consumption of earlier hoisting machines. These new products have more power and performance than earlier ones, and they are environmentally friendly. By early 2004, KONE had sold more than 90,000 elevators based on the KONE MonospaceTM platform, and over 70,000 units were in operation.
